How To Recognize When You're Angry
Sometimes we don't realize we are angry. There's been more than a few times that I didn't realize how mad I was until I heard myself getting loud or start to shake. Below are more ways to tell you are getting mad.
Physical Indicators
- A) Face flushing red and feeling hot
- B) Shaking
- C) Heart racing
- D) Urge to do something physical
- E) Not being able to put your thoughts into words and speak
- F) Stomach pain
- G) Voice getting louder and more forceful
Mental Indicators
- A) Finding only faults and inability to perceive the positive aspects of a person or thing
- B) Your thoughts are filled with cursing and aggressive language
- C) Thoughts of staying away from some person or thing
- D) Thoughts of hitting, slapping, or killing some person
- E) Thoughts of destroying property
- F) Thoughts of physically harming yourself
- G) Thoughts of a coping mechanism you use to suppress anger for example, you may start craving ice cream or alcohol if you regularly use these things to deal with angry feelings.
Behavioral Indicators
- A) Saying mean and insulting things to or about people
- B) Banging and slamming things around
- C) Provoking people by saying and doing things you know will make them angry
- D) Acting on addictive behaviors, for example eating sugar, drinking, alcohol, taking pills, spending money
- E) Harming yourself physically
- F) Harming someone else physically
When authority figures act out on anger in irrational, unpredictable, and even physically violent ways anger may be viewed as the enemy. In reality we were created to experience anger to protect us. Anger indicates we percieve a threat in our environment.
